What’s your working background, and how did you come to work for New Icon?

My background is in wayfinding, which I like to think of as UX for physical spaces. For five years I worked on projects focused on improving how people navigate public environments, making sure their journey through a space felt intuitive and seamless. Curious about how those same principles applied to the digital world, I took a sabbatical in Lisbon where I completed a UX course. That experience deepened my interest in how humans interact with software and inspired me to shift my focus. When I returned to the UK, I joined a digital agency in Bradford on Avon. There, I was able to channel my wayfinding experience into the world of digital UX – applying my understanding of human behaviour, clarity, and flow to digital services, websites and apps. Fast forward to today, I’m continuing that journey with New Icon, where I get to keep learning, growing, and crafting thoughtful, human-centred experiences, in the city I love!

Describe your job to a six-year-old

Imagine you get a brand new toy. When you open it, it’s super easy to play with, the buttons are in the right spot, it feels fun, and you don’t get confused at all. That’s good UX - it means the toy was made to be fun and easy for you to use. Now imagine another toy that looks cool, but it's hard to figure out, the buttons don’t do what you expect, and you end up getting frustrated. That’s bad UX - it wasn’t made in a way that helps you have fun easily. So, UX is all about making things (like toys, games, apps, or websites) easy, fun, and nice for people to use!

What are you looking forward to working on the most?

I'm especially excited about working on more AI projects. It's a whole new paradigm of UX design – one that's constantly evolving and opening up fresh, complex, and fascinating design challenges. From creating intuitive interactions with intelligent systems to designing for unpredictability and trust, AI pushes the boundaries of what good UX can look like. I’m looking forward to being part of shaping that future.

What tech breakthroughs do you think we’ll be seeing in the next ten years?

I’m really interested to see how technology evolves in women’s health. It’s an area that has historically been under-researched and underfunded, but I’m hopeful that as technology advances, we’ll start to see meaningful breakthroughs. From better diagnostic tools and personalised health tracking to unbiased AI-driven insights and improved access to care, there’s huge potential for innovation. It’s an exciting space that deserves far more attention – and I’m looking forward to seeing (and hopefully contributing to) its growth over the next decade.

What do you like doing outside of work, any unusual hobbies?

Outside of work, you'll usually find me running, at the gym, exploring new places, or hunting down good food and wine. I’m always up for an adventure, but I’ve also got a bit of a granny side. There’s nothing I love more than curling up with a crochet project in front of some trash TV. It’s all about balance!
