Welcome Andrew to the team!

We've welcomed a new team member to New Icon, which means a new starter blog! 

This month we'd like to welcome Andrew Lloyd, who's joined as Finance Manager. Here are Andrew's answers to the famous New Icon "new starter" questions...

 

What’s your working background, and how did you come to work for Newicon?

Having spent 19 years with a ‘sales career’ I fancied a change. I enjoyed working with Excel and so took up finance. 8 years of work, study and endless exams later, here I am. My finance background has all been within Education so this is going to be a nice change. 

 

Describe your job to a six-year-old

I make sure we have enough money to pay for things. 

 

What are you looking forward to working on the most?

I do like setting budgets so I'd be interested in proposing a private sector budget compared to an educational budget. 

 

What tech breakthroughs do you think we’ll be seeing in the next ten years? 

Intrigued to how far AI is going to go. Are we going to see ‘AI athletes’ in the Olympics!? 

 

What do you like doing outside of work, any unusual hobbies?

Nothing unusual. Mainly anything fitness/sport related. Gym and golf are my main ‘participating’ activities nowadays. Do enjoy watching, F1, golf, rugby, cricket, football plus others

Love spending time with my wife and daughter too. 

 

Favourite film/TV show?

An impossible question to answer.

Big Bang Theory, The Office, Only Fools and Horses (which I have been watching with my 16 month old daughter), however we are now into the Peppa Pig stage. 

I do love Disney animated films. Am a huge James Bond fan. 

 

What podcast would you recommend?

I like listening/watching ‘Stick to Football’ ,‘The Overlap’ and ‘Therestisfootball’ 

 

At Newicon we listen to a lot of music and make far too many playlists. What are your go-to songs and/or artists?

I have an eclectic taste. So anything really, from 80’s classics, early 90’s trance, Britpop, Frank Sinatra. I also listen to a lot of film scores. Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, John Williams etc
